Show a field on forms and lists
Place a saved field on the form, data views and record page. A field holds a value. Where people see it is decided by the form, the data views and the record page. Check them in this order.
You never added it to the form
Section titled “You never added it to the form”Check. Open Forms. In the Fields list on the left, look for the field. Fields that are not on the form wait there.
Fix. Drag it into a block, or click Add all, then Save. Add each new field to the form yourself, and to the views that should show it.
You never added it to the table, board or other view
Section titled “You never added it to the table, board or other view”Check. Open Dataviews. On the Table tab, look at the columns. On Kanban, Cards and List, look at the card or row fields.
Fix. Use Add columns (table) or Add a field (card views), then Save. A new module has a table with no columns. If a warning says that columns point to deleted fields, click Remove them, then add the new ones.
The form hides it by rule
Section titled “The form hides it by rule”Check. On the form, select the field and read its action: Read only, Editable, Visible or Invisible, and the On the public form choice: Same as this form, Hidden or Read-only. Then open Block rules on the block that holds it. Show when hides the whole block until a condition is true. With no conditions, the block is always shown.
Fix. Change the action, or fix the condition. To test, open a record that meets the condition.
The permission profile hides it
Section titled “The permission profile hides it”Check. Open the person’s profile under Account settings › Users & Security › Permissions. The Fields column of the module may show hidden fields. Hidden fields are removed from forms.
Fix. Set the field to Editable or Read-only, save the profile, and ask the person to sign in again, because permissions load at sign-in.
Add it to the record page
Section titled “Add it to the record page”Check. Two things hide a field on the record page:
- Hide empty fields on the Details tab is on, and the field has no value yet.
- The field is not marked In header, so it is missing from the facts at the top.
Fix. Turn Hide empty fields off, or fill the field. To show it in the header, tick In header on the Fields page, or add it as a fact in Smart views. Choose the facts people use most, so the action buttons stay close to the top.
You are looking at a list that shows only some columns
Section titled “You are looking at a list that shows only some columns”Check. On a phone, the table shows a Title on phones field and a short list of the rest.
Fix. Choose the title and columns in Dataviews of the module that owns the list.
I am not sure which type to use
Section titled “I am not sure which type to use”Check. The type decides how a field behaves in lists and on forms.
Fix. Read Which field type should I use? and pick the type that matches what people enter.
