CSV parser
How-to6 minExpert
Before you start
A CSV parser reads a CSV file and makes each row a record in a list. Use it when a buyer uploads a price list or a list of invoice lines and the workflow must process each row.
When should I use the CSV parser?
Section titled “When should I use the CSV parser?”Use it for a CSV file in a file field. Then a Loop goes through the rows, or a Record manager with Batch create saves them. For Excel files downloaded by a browser, the Web agent can read the table itself.
Add a CSV parser
Section titled “Add a CSV parser”- Click + and choose CSV parser. It sits in the Data group.
- Under Read the file in, choose the file field that holds the CSV.
- Under Columns, click Add a column. Type the header as it appears in the file and choose its type.
- Under Result, type a name in Name it.
Read the file in takes a file field.
Each Column has a header name and a type: Text, Whole number or Decimal.
Name it names the list of rows.
What do the settings do?
Section titled “What do the settings do?”| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Read the file in | The file field that holds the CSV |
| Columns | The columns to read. Type the header; Beezr shows Read as the name it uses |
| Type | Text, Whole number or Decimal |
| Name it | The list’s name |
Worked example: import price lines
Section titled “Worked example: import price lines”A buyer uploads prices.csv with the headers Item, Unit Price and Quantity. Karim adds three columns. The editor shows them as item, unit_price and quantity. He sets the last two to Decimal and Whole number, and names the list priceRows.
What should I watch for?
Section titled “What should I watch for?”- The first row is the header. Every row after it becomes one record.
- Choose a type for each column; a column read as text stays text.
- Write numbers with a dot as the decimal point, for example
1234.50.
