Design the record header

How-to7 minPractitioner

Before you start

The header is the first thing people see on a record, so it should answer one question: what is this, and where does it stand? Choose a title, a status and a few facts, and optionally a picture. This page works through a Bids record.

  1. Open Smart views for the module. Make sure Show as is on New record page.
  2. Click the Title and status area on the record, or its row in the outline.
  3. Under Status, choose a lookup field, for example Status. The default is No status.
  4. For each value of the lookup, pick a colour: Neutral, Blue, Green, Amber or Red.
  5. Click Save.

The status shows as a word after the title, coloured by the record’s value. It is plain coloured text, not a badge. Add values to the lookup first, on the Lookups page, so there is something to colour.

The title is the first header field in field order. To change it, see the next section. Edit and the three-dot button sit at the right of this area, built in.

Facts are the record’s summary under the title: the label above the value. Show the few that people check first, such as the vendor, the status and the RFx event.

  1. Click the Facts area, then Add field.
  2. Pick a field from the list. It shows the field’s type under its name. A smart field is marked “draws a live component”.
  3. To move a fact, click it and use Earlier or Later, or use the arrows in the Facts list.
  4. Click Save.
The header card of a Bids record in the designer: the title area with the picture and Edit, then three facts named Vendor, Status and RFx Event, and an Add field button.
The picture sits at the start of the Title and status area.
Each fact shows its label above a placeholder for the value.
Add field lists the module’s fields that are not in the header yet.

Moving a fact to the top makes it the title. Moving the title down makes the next field the title. Remove from the header takes a field out of the header only. The field stays in the module.

Keep the list short, so the actions stay close to the title. Smart fields draw their own live component, so keep those compact.

Click Picture in the outline, or the picture on the record. Under Where the picture comes from choose:
