Duplicate or delete a module

How-to5 minPractitioner

Before you start

Duplicate a module when you need a second one that looks like the first, such as Equipment Requests and Vehicle Requests. Delete one when you no longer need it. Both start from the card menu on the Modules page.

  1. Open Modules.
  2. On the module’s card, open the menu button and click Duplicate. The Duplicate module dialog opens.
  3. Change the Name. It starts as the old name with copy added, for example Vendors copy.
  4. Edit the Description if you want.
  5. Click Create copy.

The new module appears as a card. It follows the same naming rules as any new module. Give the copy a name no other module uses.

The Duplicate module dialog: the note 'Copies the module's structure into a new module. Records are not copied.', a Name box with 'Vendors copy', a Description box and the Cancel and Create copy buttons.
The dialog says “Copies the module’s structure into a new module. Records are not copied.”
The name is the old one followed by copy. Replace it.
Create copy makes the new module.
CopiedNot copied
Your fields, with their types and settingsRecords
The description, icon and barcode-sheet settingRelations and relation fields
Workflows, forms and views you built
The Share data across users setting, which you set again on the copy

The copy gets the standard starting set, like any new module: its own key field, creation date and user fields, an empty form and a table with no columns. Add the copied fields to the form and the table yourself.

Open the new module’s Fields page to check the copied fields.

  1. On the module’s card, open the menu button and click Delete.
  2. Read the confirmation: “Delete this module? It will also be removed from every app that uses it.”
  3. Click Delete. To back out, click Keep it.

Beezr shows “Operation successful.” and the card disappears.

Deleting a module:

  • drops its table, so every record in it is gone
  • removes it from every application that lists it
  • adds an entry for it to the Recycle bin under Account settings

The confirmation mentions applications. Before you delete, check the module’s Automation, your reports and your dashboards. Anything that pointed at the module has nothing to point at afterwards.

Click Select, click each module to delete, then click Delete in the bar at the bottom and confirm. The message says how many were deleted.

After a duplicate, a new card with a copy of the structure. After a delete, a smaller list, and application menus without the module. To tidy the menu, see Organise the app menu with groups.

Check yourself

Sara duplicates the Vendors module. What does the new module contain?
Show the answer

The fields, but no records. Duplicate copies the structure: the fields and their settings. Add the records you need to the copy.

Nour deletes a module that three applications list. What happens in those applications?
Show the answer

The module is removed from each application's menu. The confirmation says the module is also removed from every app that uses it.
