A tour of the Designer
Before you start
The Designer has the same frame on every page: a rail on the left, a bar across the top, and the page itself. Once you know the frame, every page is easier to find. This tour walks through it using the Designer home page.
What is in the left rail?
Section titled “What is in the left rail?”The rail is the list of Designer pages. Click the logo at the top to return to the home page.
| Group | Items |
|---|---|
| Top | New application |
| Build | My applications, Modules, Lookups, Labels, Document generation, Dashboards |
| Add-ons | Data tools, Integration hub, BeezrIQ |
| Bottom | Account settings, Collapse |
Each item in the Add-ons group appears when your workspace has that feature, so a colleague’s rail may show more or fewer items than yours.
Press [ or click Collapse to shrink the rail to icons. Beezr remembers your choice in this browser.
What is in the top bar?
Section titled “What is in the top bar?”From left to right:
- The workspace name, then the Designer | App switch. You are in Designer space, so Designer is highlighted.
- The Sandbox menu, only if your workspace has a sandbox. It says “You’re in the sandbox” and offers Promote to production… and Replace with production….
- The island, described next.
- Build with Buzz, if your workspace has the assistant.
- Help, with Getting started, Contact support, Documentation and Jump to anything.
- Your account menu, with your name and email, My profile, Account settings and Log out.
Getting started shows how much of your onboarding is done, step by step. Contact support takes a description and an optional screenshot, and attaches the page you are on to the ticket.
What is the island?
Section titled “What is the island?”The island is the pill after the workspace name. It changes with the page.
On a page that is not about one module, it shows the section name, such as My applications, and a Jump to button.
On a module page it shows the module’s name and its five surfaces, in this order:
| Key | Surface | What you build there |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fields | The information a record keeps |
| 2 | Forms | The page people fill in |
| 3 | Dataviews | Tables, boards and other lists of records |
| 4 | Smart views | The designed page for one record |
| 5 | Automation | Workflows on this module |
Click the module name, or press M, to switch module. A search box reads Switch module…, with your Recent modules above All modules. Choose a module and it opens on the surface you were using. If no module is picked yet, the island reads Pick a module.
How does Jump to anything work?
Section titled “How does Jump to anything work?”Press Ctrl + K (Cmd + K on a Mac), or click Jump to. Start typing and pick a result with the arrow keys and Enter. Ctrl + Enter opens it in a new tab.
It finds:
- the pages in the rail
- some Account settings pages: Users and security, Roles, Permissions, Org chart, Mail setup, Datasources, API keys, Look and feel, Recycle bin and Templates center
- your modules, which open on Fields
- a module and a surface together. Type
contracts formsand it opens Contracts on Forms.
Type a module name followed by a surface, such as vendors dataviews. It is the fastest way to move between modules.
What does the home page tell me?
Section titled “What does the home page tell me?”The home page greets you (“Good morning”, “Good afternoon” or “Good evening”) and summarises how healthy your workspace is. It loads in parts, so each card fills in on its own.
- Needs attention lists workflows that failed, never finished or have gone quiet in the last 14 days, and workspace usage that needs attention.
- Automation shows the success rate of finished runs. The switch at the top right changes the view between Last 14 days and All time.
- Usage shows five meters: Users, Flows, Modules, Records and Media storage. A meter turns amber from 70% and red from 90%, so you can plan ahead.
- Flows lists each workflow with its state, such as Failing, Never finished, Healthy or Off, and links to the workflow manager.
A new workspace with no application shows Create your first application instead, with a Create application button.
Where do I go next?
Section titled “Where do I go next?”Build something small with the Quickstart, or read how applications and the app menu fit together. The full list of shortcuts is in Keyboard shortcuts.
