Set up the table view

How-to7 minFoundation

Before you start

Set up the table view to decide which columns people see, in what order, and how records are sorted. The table is the view most people use all day, so a good one saves clicks. This page covers a module with a few fields already in it.

A new module has a table with no columns, so start here.

  1. Open Dataviews for the module and stay on the Table tab. Check that Show the table view is on.
  2. Under Columns, click Add columns.
  3. Type in Search fields, or scroll, and click each field you want. A tick marks the fields already in the table.
  4. Press Esc to close the list. The footer counts them, for example “5 of 12 fields in the table”.
  5. Drag the columns into the order you want. Alt + the arrow keys move the selected column too.
  6. Click Save.

To take a column out, click the x on its row. Beezr lists the first column as the title people see on a phone, and marks it Title on phones. Put the field that names the record, such as the contract number, first.

The Table tab for Contracts: eight columns on the left, each showing its field type, and a preview of the table on the right.
Each row is a column. The grip on the left drags it, and the second line shows the field type.
Title on phones marks the first column.
Script or Styled means the column has a style rule.
Add columns opens the field picker.
The preview updates a moment after each change.

Click a column to open its editor on the right. Header shows the field’s label. To rename it, use Rename on Fields, because every view reads the label from there.

Under Conditional style, choose a mode. The modes depend on the field’s type.

Field typeModes
LookupNone, By value, Script
Integer, Long, Decimal, CurrencyNone, When number, Always, Script
Every other typeNone, Always, Script
  • By value lists each lookup value. Pick a colour for each, or the cross for none. Values you leave alone stay plain.
  • When number takes rules, such as is greater than 50000, each with a colour. The first matching rule wins.
  • Always gives every value in the column one colour.

The colours are Green, Blue, Amber, Red, Grey and Indigo. Look chooses between Soft pill and Coloured text. Script takes a Smart Script that returns CSS, with the field names between $ signs. Beezr offers View the script this saves for the first three modes, and Edit as a script turns that script into one you can change.

Click Done to close the editor. Remove column takes the column out.

Under Sort records by, click Add a sort, choose a field and a direction. The direction buttons use words that suit the field: Oldest first and Newest first for dates, Lowest first and Highest first for numbers, A → Z and Z → A for the rest. Add another sort adds a then by rule. Without a rule, Beezr shows the newest records first, by date added.

Under Rows per page, choose 10, 25, 50 or 100.

Use the desktop and phone buttons above the Preview. On a phone each record is a card: the first column is the title, and the other columns sit under it.

If Show the table view is off, Beezr keeps your columns and sorting for when you turn it back on. Saved lists, which people use to filter the table, have their own page.

A table with the columns you chose, in your order, coloured where it matters. Open the module in App space. The view is called Tabular there.
