The Labels page

Screen guide6 minPractitioner

Before you start

A label is a piece of text people read in your apps: a module’s name, a field’s name, a button. Each label has a key, an English text and an Arabic text. The Labels page lists them all. It says: “The names people see for your apps and fields. Edit any text in place. Changes save as you leave the cell.”

Open it with Labels in the left rail.

The Labels page: a progress bar reading Arabic is 78% done, a search box with the All and Needs Arabic filters, a Both, English and Arabic switch, and a table of keys with English and Arabic text.
New label adds a key with its English and Arabic text.
The bar shows how many labels have their own Arabic text.
Translate them filters the table to the labels that still need Arabic.
Needs Arabic is the same filter, with a count.
Both, English and Arabic choose which columns to show.
The key is the label’s permanent name. Click it to copy.
Click the English or Arabic cell to edit it.

What are the progress bar and Needs Arabic?

Section titled “What are the progress bar and Needs Arabic?”

At the top, a bar reads Arabic is {percent}% done and says how many labels “still show English or nothing to Arabic users”. When every label is done it reads Every label has Arabic text.

A label counts as needing Arabic in two cases:

  • the Arabic cell is empty. The cell then shows Missing
  • the Arabic text is exactly the same as the English. The cell shows Same as English

The second case exists because Beezr copies the English name into Arabic when you create a new module or field. Until someone translates it, the label counts as needing Arabic. The bar reaches 100% when every label has its own Arabic text.

Translate them filters the table to Needs Arabic. Enter the translations as you work down the list. Switch back with All, which shows the total count.

Click the English or Arabic cell, change the text and leave the cell. Beezr saves it then. A small status shows beside the cell, and Try again is there if a save needs repeating.

  • Enter moves to the next row.
  • Tab moves to the next cell.
  • Esc undoes the edit you are making.

The Arabic cell is right to left. Extra spaces are trimmed when you save.

The search box reads Search keys, English or Arabic and looks in all three columns. Press / to jump to it. The Both, English and Arabic switch hides the columns you do not need.

If nothing matches, the page says No labels match “{text}”, with Clear search and a button to create a label from what you typed.

  • Add. Click New label. See Translate your app into Arabic for the dialog.
  • Copy a key. Click the key, or the copy icon at the end of the row. Beezr shows “Copied {key}”.
  • Delete. Click the bin icon. A prompt says “Delete {key}? Screens that use this key will show a blank or the raw key instead.” Click Delete to confirm.

A key ending in _mod_name is a module’s name. Beezr creates one when you create a module, and the table marks it with an App tag. Edit its text to change what people read.

Keys are lowercase, with underscores. Each key is used once, while the text can repeat.

Check yourself

A label's Arabic text is identical to its English text. How does the Labels page count it?
Show the answer

As Needs Arabic, because new modules and fields copy English into Arabic. Beezr copies English into Arabic for new modules and fields, so "same as English" means nobody has translated it yet.

Nour deletes a label that a form still uses. What do people see on that form?
Show the answer

A blank or the raw key. The delete prompt warns that screens using the key show a blank or the raw key instead.
