Build a form

How-to6 minFoundation

Before you start

Build a formFormThe set of blocks and components people fill in for a module.Open glossary ↗ so people can capture a record in one clear page, for example a purchase order with its vendor, dates and amounts. You group the fields into blocks, then save. This takes a few minutes for a module with a dozen fields.

  1. Open Modules and choose the module, for example Invoices.
  2. Click Forms in the top bar. The Form builder opens.
  3. If the page says “This module has no form yet”, click Create form.

A new form starts with one block. The Fields tab on the left lists every field that is not on the form yet.

  1. In the first block, click the title and type a name, for example Basic Information.
  2. Click Add all above the field list to put every field into the first block. Or drag fields from the list one at a time.
  3. Use Search fields to find a field in a long list.
  4. Drag a field by its grip to change its place. You can drop it into another block.
The Form builder for Invoices: unused fields as chips in the palette on the left, and the Basic Information and Financial Information blocks with field cards.
Fields that are not on the form wait here as chips. Drag one into a block.
Add all moves them all into the first block.
Click a block title to rename it.
1 col and 2 col set how many fields sit side by side.
A second block groups the money fields. Add block creates one.
  1. Click Add block. A block named “New block” appears at the end.
  2. Rename it, then drag the fields that belong in it.
  3. Use the arrows in the block header to move the block up or down.

Group by what people think about together. “Basic Information”, “Financial Information” and “Delivery” read better than “Block 2”.

  1. Click Save, or press Ctrl + S.
  2. If a Validation Result panel opens, read the errors, fix them and save again.
  3. Open the application in App space and add a record to see the form as people see it.

The module has a form with named blocks. Each field shows in the order you set. People see the blocks when they add or edit a record. The same blocks appear on the public version of the form if you publish it.

  • A new field waits in the Fields tab. Drag it into a block or click Add all.
  • Removing a field from the form keeps it in the module. It goes back to the list.
  • Deleting a block sends its fields back to the list too. Beezr says so in the confirmation: “Nothing is deleted from your data.”
  • The palette hides what is on the form. Drag each field to its intended position.
  • Components such as a Table or a Button are dragged in from the Components tab the same way. See The Form builder.

Into the first block. Add all adds every unused field to the first block. You then drag fields where you want them.

Karim added a field to the module yesterday. Today it is not on the form. Why?

A new field waits in the palette, so he drags it into a block. A new field appears in the Fields table and waits in the palette until you put it in a block.
