Organise the app menu with groups

How-to5 minFoundation

Before you start

Groups turn a long list of modules into a menu people can scan. Group the modules by the work people do, such as Requisition, Contracting and Purchasing. Everything here happens in the App builder, and none of it counts until you click Save.

  1. Open My applications and click the application’s card. To start a new one, click New application.
  2. Under Menu, click Add group. If the menu is empty, the button reads Add first group.
  3. Type the group name, for example Contracting, and press Enter.
  4. In the list that opens, tick each module that belongs in the group. Use Search modules to narrow a long list.
  5. Click Done.
  6. Click Save.

The modules appear under the group as rows. The group shows how many it holds.

The Menu panel of the App builder with four groups. Each group has a grip, a name, a module count, Add modules and a menu button.
Drag the grip to move a group.
Click the group name to rename it.
Add modules reopens the module list for this group.
The menu button holds Rename, Move up, Move down and Delete group.

Each row in the module list shows a tick when the module is already in this group. A row marked In Purchasing is already in another group of this app.

  • Move a group. Drag its grip, or open its menu button and choose Move up or Move down.
  • Move a module. Drag the grip at the start of its row. You can drop it in another group.

The menu in App space follows this order, top to bottom.

Click the group name, or choose Rename from the menu button. Edit the name and press Enter. Press Esc to cancel. Give the group a name that no other group uses; capitals do not make a name different.

  • Remove a module from a group. Click the × at the end of its row. Beezr shows “{module} removed from {group}” with Undo for a few seconds.
  • Delete a group. Open its menu button and choose Delete group. If the group has modules, Beezr asks Delete the {group} group? and says “The modules and their records are not deleted.” An empty group goes straight away.

Put at least one module in every group you add, so each group shows in the menu after you save.

After Save, Beezr returns to My applications and says “{name} saved”. Open the application in App space to see the menu. The groups are the headings and the modules are the items under them.

Sara deletes the Purchasing group that holds 4 modules. What happens to those modules?
Show the answer

They leave this app's menu, and the modules and their records stay. A group is only a heading in the menu. Deleting it removes the entries from this app, not the modules or records.

You add a group called Contracting and want it in the menu. What do you do before you click Save?
Show the answer

Tick at least one module for it. A group shows in the menu once it holds modules, so tick the modules that belong in it.
